After working at a smoothie shop in college for three years, I consider myself a bit of a smoothie pro. I know the importance of an ice to liquid ratio, the value of bulk adding powders, and the benefits of milk vs. juice. I've made countless different types of smoothies and power-bowls over the years but I had never ventured into the world of "green" or fruit/veggie type smoothies. After hearing several friends rave about them, I decided to make my own concoction. It took sometime (and a shitload of different ingredients) to find my perfect combo but now that I have I make a point of it to have it for breakfast atleast twice a week. It leaves me full for hours and gives me a great boost of energy to start my day.
Ingredients:
- One cup unsweetened kefir (you can also use unsweetned almond milk or greek yogurt)
- 5 ice cubes
- One banana
- Two cups kale
- 1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein
- One packet truviva or stevia
- 3 almonds or one teaspoon dry steel cut oatmeal
